Privacy Policy

Effective November 4, 2026

This policy covers the Nslookup iPhone app and nslookup.app, including its API and MCP server. They are owned and operated by Ronald Guillen ("Apptribe", "we" or "us").

The short version

  • There are no accounts. We only ask for your name and email address if you contact support.
  • When you run a lookup, we record what was looked up and the IP address it came from.
  • The app has no analytics, ads or tracking. It does ask Google for the icons in your history.
  • The website uses Google Analytics, which uses cookies.
  • We do not sell your information.

What we record when you run a lookup

Looking up a domain or an IP address means sending it to our servers, from the app and the website alike. Each lookup is stored as one record, holding:

  • the domain or IP address you looked up, and which tool you used
  • the IP address your request came from
  • whether it came from the app, the website or the API
  • the resolver used, the result, how long it took, and any error
  • the date and time

Because a record holds both your IP address and your search, it shows what was looked up from that address. We use these records to run the service, to chart usage and plan capacity, and to spot abuse. Our basis for this, where the law asks for one, is our legitimate interest in running and protecting the service. We also keep hourly totals of lookups, which contain nothing about you.

The iPhone app

What stays on your device

Your lookup history, your appearance setting and your choice of resolver are stored on your iPhone. They are not synced to iCloud or sent to us. PDF reports are created on your device, and go wherever you choose to share them. This is the history you see in the app; the record of each lookup described above is separate, and is kept on our servers.

What leaves your device

  • Your lookups go to our servers, as described above. Apart from your IP address, the app sends nothing that identifies you or your device.
  • Website icons in your history. To show a domain's icon, the app requests it from Google's favicon service, which receives that domain and your IP address. Google handles this under its own privacy policy.

The app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code, and it does not use an advertising identifier. If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may give us crash reports and usage statistics that do not identify you.

The website

Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. It sets cookies, and reports the pages you visit along with details such as your browser and approximate location. A results page's address contains the domain or IP address you looked up, so Google receives that too. The tag also reports page views to Google's advertising measurement services. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on.

Our own storage. We set no cookies of our own. Your light or dark theme is saved in your browser and never sent to us.

Content from other services. Pages load fonts, code and icons from third-party content services, including Google, and address results load a map from Apple. Your browser connects to these services directly, so they receive your IP address.

PDF reports. A report is generated when you download it and is not kept. Generating one runs the lookup again, so it is recorded like any other lookup.

The API and MCP server

Lookups made through the public API are recorded as described above. When you use the MCP server, the AI assistant you connect to it sees your conversation and its results under that assistant's own terms.

Contacting support

If you use the support form or email us, we receive your name, your email address and what you write. We use them only to reply, and they reach us by email through a service provider.

Who else is involved

  • Service providers that host our servers, store our records, report errors to us and deliver email. They handle this information and may keep standard logs of requests, only to provide those services.
  • An IP data provider receives the IP addresses you look up, to find their location and network. It does not receive yours.
  • DNS resolvers and domain registries receive the domains you look up, so they can answer. Our servers make these requests, so they do not receive your IP address.
  • Google, Apple and the content services described in the sections above.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the service and its users. These services may process information outside your country.

How long we keep it

Lookup records do not currently have a fixed deletion date, so they are kept until we delete them. Support messages stay in our inbox for as long as we need them to help you. Your app history stays on your iPhone until you swipe an entry away or delete the app. Google and the other services above keep information according to their own policies.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to complain to your data protection authority. There are no accounts, so to make a request, email us the IP address you used and roughly when. That is the only way we can find your records.

Children

The app and website are not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has used them and want their records removed, contact us.

Changes to this policy

If what we collect changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
